FEDERAL REQUIREMENT:  Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Registration Requirements in Effect —Opioid abuse identification education is now required when doctors of optometry and other physicians obtain their DEA registration. (not for CE Credit)

•            ODs and other physicians will need to attest to having taken 8 hours to opioid abuse education during DEA registration or renewal.  Note that the 3 hr STATE Rational Narcotic Prescribing Course DOES NOT APPLY...those are totally separate.

•             Congressional Fixes are in flux:  AOA is working with Congress to be recognized as a body that can develop and certify education to meet the new DEA registration requirements.
